Joe Borreson Entrancing shadowy layered vocal swells by that pull you into their depths. Some sound like modern Hilderard von Bingen others like wisps of a dream pulling you in as a siren may. This album of 'vocal experiments' as Carol Anne called them were made only with her layered and treated voice. At times they sound like a church organ or a keyboard, but it is all her voice. And all of it is beautiful. Favorite track: A Movement in Time.

about

The beginnings of this album were constructed during the pandemic lockdowns, the initial drafts being recorded straight into a laptop microphone as no other instruments were close hand during this time.

Each song started off as an improvisation, passing notes grasped in mid air, transient phrases conjured from unknown origins, the songs grew layer by layer, slowly formulating themselves into compositions.

Linguistically, the voicings are more akin to poetic sound-images or gestures of speech, rather than being confined to any particular semantic meaning.
Some lyrics appear in Latin and some are more closely related to Glosolalia; improvised articulations of words or speech-like sounds.
The intention lay always in the translation of emotion, over any correct or definable language.

This album grew from an experiment in using only the voice as instrument; to see what possibilities could be created from within the perimeters of the human body, through the shaping and vibration of one of life's essential elements; air.
